Interpreting by video call

Remote interpreting
video call or telephone

Supplier catch-ups every Monday, a consultation, sixty minutes of recruitment interview: none of that warrants sending a professional across the province. Instead, the interpreter signs into your Teams, Zoom or Meet session, or picks up the phone.

Our formats

The formats we cover remotely

Two options: the interpreter joins your online meeting, or connects you through a three-way call.

01

Video conferencing

The interpreter opens the link you send, on Teams, Zoom, Google Meet or Webex, and works in liaison or simultaneous mode depending on what the tool allows.

02

Telephone connection

A three-way call, useful when understanding has to be immediate and nothing could be arranged in advance.

03

One-to-one interviews

Job interviews, appraisals, meetings with a social worker or a doctor. Sessions that run under an hour, where travelling would outweigh the interpreting itself.

04

Recurring meetings

Project reviews with a supplier, steering committees, assessments run between teams spread across several countries.

05

Rare languages

Since physical attendance is not required, the pool covers the whole of Belgium and often reaches other countries.

06

Unforeseen situations

A patient arriving alone without the language, an administrative formality grinding to a halt: we look for a connection straight away.

What drives quality

Everything hinges on the sound

A laptop's built-in microphone, a room that echoes, participants talking over one another: in those conditions no interpreter, however good, will render the exchange properly.

That is why we put ten minutes of technical checking on the table beforehand, at no charge. The interpreter then opens the session with two ground rules: nobody talks over anybody, and each idea ends with a short pause.

With those conditions met, a video call serves as well as being in the room for an interview or a working meeting, without the journey or the half-day blocked out.

Merits and limits

What a video call allows and what it does not replace

It deserves to be spelled out: some situations are simply not suited to a screen.

Short formats

Sixty minutes on a screen represent a small share of what half a day in the room would come to once travel is counted.

Easier to schedule

An hour with no journey attached slots into a diary far more readily than a full half-day.

Difficult combinations

For a language with few speakers available, this is often the only workable route at short notice.

Less suited to decisive moments

Hearing in Nivelles, signature at the notary's, tense negotiation: being in the room keeps the advantage, since gesture and gaze are part of what gets across.

The sound governs everything else. With a built-in microphone, a room that echoes and participants talking across each other, the rendering stays approximate even with an excellent interpreter. Ten minutes of technical checking clears up most of the problem.

How it runs

Four steps, and 48 hours is enough

Setting up a remote session takes far less time than organising a journey.

  1. 01

    You book a slot

Give the date, the time, the expected duration, the languages and the tool in use. The first hour is indivisible, after which counting runs in half-hours.

  2. 02

    Ten minutes of testing

If you wish, we check the link, the sound and screen sharing the day before. Ten minutes well spent.

  3. 03

    The interpreter joins

Five minutes before the start the interpreter enters the virtual room, introduces themselves and explains how the floor will be shared.

  4. 04

    Counting the actual time

A session that stops early remains due up to the minimum. A session that overruns follows the pro rata announced.

Our commitments

Our guarantees at a distance

01

From one hour onwards

No half-day package: billing follows the time genuinely spent.

02

Every platform

Teams, Zoom, Meet and Webex are covered. Interpretation channels are put to use wherever they exist.

03

Technical test at no cost

Sound levels, meeting link and speaking permissions get tested beforehand, instead of being discovered live while your counterparts watch.

04

A wider pool

The interpreter may live anywhere in the country, which opens up pairs that are hard to cover on site.

05

The same confidentiality

Confidentiality undertakings apply online too. The interpreter works alone, headset on, and nothing is recorded.

06

No add-on charges

Nothing is added to the hourly rate: no mileage, no equipment hire, no travel allowance.

Good to know

Frequently asked questions

Can I book half an hour?

The first hour is indivisible: the interpreter blocks the slot, prepares the subject and connects in advance. After that, counting runs in half-hours, so a meeting of an hour and forty minutes does not cost two hours.

What if the connection drops?

The interpreter reconnects at once and alerts you through the agreed channel. If the break comes from our side and prevents the session from continuing, it is not billed. The preliminary test exists precisely for that.

Does simultaneous work over a video link?

Teams and Zoom allow it: each participant picks the language they listen to. On other tools the session runs in liaison mode, with everyone speaking in turn and the interpreter rendering between contributions.

Do you handle meetings spanning several countries?

Every day. Many sessions bring together a site in Walloon Brabant, a parent company outside Europe and partners in two or three countries. French, English and a third language then circulate in the same meeting: the number of interpreters is set on the pairs genuinely in use, not on the list of nationalities connected.

And what about a hospital appointment?

For a follow-up, passing on information or explaining a treatment, the format works. For announcing a diagnosis or collecting consent we recommend being in the room: at those moments gaze and silence weigh as much as the sentences.
